Training Content
General Information: The training includes 25 hours of didactic education and 15 hours of practical training in therapeutic techniques as required by the ISST. In the online version of the accreditation training, the practice of experiential technical skills will be facilitated through smaller groups (Zoom breakout rooms). These allow the trainer to move seamlessly between rooms to provide participants with immediate feedback and guidance.
Content: The training consists of two modules.
Module 1
This three-day workshop covers the theory, conceptual model of schema therapy, and core therapeutic skills and interventions:
1. Introduction to Schema Therapy – historical and conceptual foundations, research, and suitability for various client populations.
2. Main Concepts of Schema Therapy: core emotional needs, schemas, modes, and coping styles.
3. Questionnaires – measuring early maladaptive schemas, modes, and the parenting questionnaire.
4. Psychoeducation – how to explain the schema therapy approach to clients.
5. Case Conceptualization and Formulation.
6. The Therapeutic Relationship.
7. Schema Therapy Techniques: imagery work, mode dialogues (chair work), limited reparenting, and role-playing.
8. Behavioral Techniques for changing maladaptive behavior patterns.
Module 2
This three-day workshop builds upon and expands the knowledge gained in Module 1. It focuses on further practice of core skills and the application of theory and techniques to specific client groups:
1. Deepening Knowledge and Skills from Module 1 and further practice of core strategies.
2. Schema Therapy for Borderline Personality Disorder.
3. Schema Therapy for Cluster C Personality Disorders.
4. Schema Therapy for Narcissistic Personality Disorder.
5. Brief Introduction to Forensic Schema Therapy.
6. Brief Overview of Schema Therapy for Axis I Disorders, including eating disorders.
7. Brief Introduction to Schema Therapy for Couples.
8. Strategies for Developing the Healthy Adult Mode.
9. Supervision, International Certification, and Continuous Development of the schema therapist.
